No. Once your referral and authorization are approved, your massage therapy sessions are fully covered by VA Community Care.
You must first talk to your VA Primary Care Provider. They will decide if massage therapy is appropriate and submit a referral.
Referrals are processed through the VA’s Community Care program. Most veterans will receive authorization from TriWest or Optum.
It varies, but many veterans receive authorization within 1–4 weeks after their provider submits the request.
Unfortunately, no. We need the official referral/authorization in place before we can provide covered care.

No. VA insurance only covers sessions after a referral and authorization have been issued. Sessions paid for beforehand cannot be billed retroactively.

If you are considering massage therapy through VA Community Care but want to try my session first, I offer a special discounted session:
60-minute massage: $75 → $55
Important: Any massage sessions you pay for yourself cannot be reimbursed by VA later. To have sessions covered, a VA referral and authorization must be obtained before your appointment.
This allows you to experience my work without going through the VA referral process first. If you find it helpful, I’ll guide you on how to request a referral so future sessions can be fully covered by VA insurance.
